“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” If this is the only thing I thought about whilst in the field, my photography would have gotten better much quicker. Northern California is dotted with old oak trees by their lonesome amongst the grass and cattle. This tree struck me while on a walk with my 4 legged son, and I returned that evening to see if I could get it with a striking sunset. As you can see, the sunset never happened which forced me to make more of the composition…or less depending upon how you look at it. I think there is a feeling evoked by the simplicity of the composition and to me that is what makes good art. The argument against this is, “Well, anyone could’ve taken that picture.” To which I reply, “But they didn’t.”
