Postmortem

I photographed this tree around May of 2018 see Sky Tree. I also photographed it in September of 2018 read it here. I walked by it today and this is what was left of it. The land was sold to a developer. More houses, more progress. I think it would’ve made a great anchor to a park. Perhaps a rope swing, maybe a tree house. But the return on investment was too little. 82 rings by my count, and less than an hour to fell I’m sure. I sat on one of her stumps, and I couldn’t help but hear it, “I wish that I could give you something... but I have nothing left. I am an old stump. I am sorry..."
