I think its funny how people react when seeing photography with, “Wow, where did you take that picture?” as opposed to how people seem to accept paintings with, “Wow, look at the use of color in that painting.” A lot of photographers will say that they, “…paint with light…” In fact, I’m sure I used the analogy somewhere in these confused jumbles of thought. taken the time to read the a fore mentioned jumbles, is predicated on my experience whilst capturing the pixels I call art. Whereas painting is more, “…what color is complimentary to this color.” The real art in photography is the effort to wake up at 4am, go out into the bad weather, physically put yourself into the scene, and technically capture the pixels. The art in painting is standing in front of my easel with a cup of coffee contemplating color theory, and constantly wondering if the last brush stroke was as good as it is going to get without fucking up the whole painting. Do I prefer one over the other? It depends on just how bad the weather outside is when I wake up…and how much bourbon I had the night before.
