Have you ever driven over a mountain pass and asked, “Why is the ground orange on the side of that hill?” When the rain comes in abundance over winter, the State flower of California takes this as a signal to unleash the ultimate display of titian, coral, apricot, tangerine, peach, red-yellow, or any other shade of orange you can think of. I have been to Antelope Valley, during the last two “super blooms.” But the ultimate poppy pic has eluded me. And even this picture, I feel, doesn’t do justice to walking amongst a sea of Tang.
