Trees and Portraits

As you can see by the large number of landscape photos on my site, portraits are not my thing. Oh, I’ve gotten lucky here and there but most of those people pictures were the result of me out looking for landscapes to capture and opportunities presented themselves. The fog rolled in as it usually does this time of year so off I went out. But as I was taking this picture it occurred to me that this is just a portrait of a tree. The fog gives nice flat lighting whilst providing a backdrop that accentuates the character of the tree. Just how many portraits are taken, just ask Ms. Leibovitz. I believe you can infer the personality of a tree the same as you can from a good photograph of a person. Yes, I know, it’s another picture of a tree in the fog but just as no two people are the same, every tree tells me a different story.
