Waterfalls Suck

I hate waterfalls. I didn’t used to hate waterfalls, but now that I spent two weeks in Norway…I hate them. It’s not the waterfall’s fault; it’s not even Norway’s fault. It’s completely my fault. I have been privileged to see some amazing waterfalls in amazing places in amazing light and yet I don’t feel I have one good photograph that brings the overwhelming sense of calm that a waterfall gives you. Norway gave me literally thousands of opportunities to find that sense of calm, and I failed at every attempt. Halfway through the trip I resigned to defeat (although it didn’t stop me from continuing to photograph every waterfall I seen) and moved on to shape, form, and color. Here, I can find that sense of calm that eludes me in the cascades from heaven. This opportunity presented itself oddly on the way to see yet another waterfall. The striking steel blue ice set against the cold grey scree with a swoosh of late June snow caught my eye and I had to capture it. It gives me all of my shape, form, and color, and yet provides the expanse of space, and time that makes you want to be there to feel it too.
