JOHN A. SIKITA

artist photographer philanthropist

People say that timing is everything. I prefer to point out the caveat that there is no amount of timing that can overcome a bad place, and worse company. Acadia National Park is certainly a place, and I always enjoy having those closest to me with me, but the timing here, made for an experience not easily matched. The great almanac said we would be a week late, but Acadia is really known for its coast, and it is exceptional, probably one of the prettiest in the world (more on that picture later). However, everything took a back seat to the technicolor pattern of leaves that left, even me, speechless. I don’t know how many different shades of red and yellow there were, and I admit that I only scratched the surface of Rockefeller’s carriage roads and bridges, but a person can only take in so much dessert in one sitting. I took thousands of pictures (as I said… more to come) but I chose this one. Not a grand landscape boasting about the shear volume of color but rather its quality. This tree’s intensity caught my eye right away. And it was set off by the red carpet with which it was set giving a truly great example of what is possible here. No timing isn’t everything, but it sure did lead to the awe with which my company experienced one of America’s greatest places.
