JOHN A. SIKITA

artist photographer philanthropist

There are more bicycles in Amsterdam than any other city in the world. So I knew if I just waited long enough, someone would ride over the bridge and I would get my shot. The real problem would be if I could get just one cyclist on the bridge at what was obviously the Amsterdam morning commute. Not only that, I had an 11 year old asking me, “Who was Van Gogh again?” “Ok lets go, our tickets are in 5 minutes and its a 10 minute walk.” I figured I was here for 2 days and this spot was a 5 minute walk from my hotel so maybe I’d get another chance. The very next morning I looked out my hotel window and lo and behold…fog. I have to admit, I’ve been way into fog the past few years. I threw on a jacket and out I went with my trusty new iPhone. Same problem though, rush hour in Amsterdam. I could easily get Huffy tracks up my back if I waited around much longer, but there she came. Down the opposite canal and picture perfect bike, scarf, hair flowing. Now if that weirdo tourist on the rickshaw bike will make it out of frame before she gets dead center.

Bingo! Got my Amsterdam souvenir.
