Another picture I think looks great in black and white. On my way back from a lackluster sunrise over Hanalei, I noticed how flat the light was over a row of palms. Usually flat light is not interesting, and I think the color version of this photograph is rather boring. However, coming off my black and white version of the Cook Pines the day before, I encouraged myself that this photograph would look great in black and white. I pulled over right before the one lane bridge to head up to Princeville and shot this pic with a 400mm telephoto lens. The lightly colored husks from the palm tree gave a stark contrast to the dark jungle behind them and pushed them forward for an abstract feel. I was on a role now. Let’s see where it took me next…
