I have been trying to take a picture of a coyote in the snow for 20 years. I have seen coyote in Martis Valley plenty of times but have never been able to get a clean shot. I figured I would go out and try again. As I came down the summit into the valley the fog was moving in just as the sun was rising. Then a little tree island popped out of the fog, so I decided to take a few pics, and then back to my quest for the elusive trickster. Two hours later, with frozen fingers, toes, and even the dog looking at me like I was nuts, I packed it in. Coyote, 50. Photographer, 0. A few hours later I sit here writing this, and my bones are still chilled, my dog is out cold on the bed, and I might actually hang the Fog Island on my wall.
